Downtown Crossing stabbing sends 18-year-old to hospital, suspect at large
A young man was stabbed late Saturday night at an MBTA station, and police are looking for a suspect they say may be as young as 16 years old.
“There was an altercation last night, at approximately 11:40 p.m., at the MBTA’s Downtown Crossing Station,” MBTA Superintendent Robert Sullivan told the Herald in an email Sunday.
According to Sullivan, the stabbing appears to have happened on the stairs of the Franklin Street entrance to the busy subway station. The victim, an unidentified 18-year-old man, “sustained stab wounds to his body,” Sullivan said.
“The victim was transported to a local area hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries,” he said.
The Transit Police did not provide a description for the suspect, except to say it was a boy or young man and that the investigation is ongoing.
“The facts and circumstances surrounding this incident is under investigation by Transit Police detectives,” Sullivan said. “Preliminarily our investigation suggests a possible suspect to be a young male approximate age of 16 to 19 years of age. No further information is available at this time.”
