Police: Braintree manhunt linked to Plymouth shooting

A Braintree manhunt Tuesday that was tied to a Plymouth shooting from several weeks ago led to the temporary lockdown of the city’s schools and ended with three people in custody, police said.

State and local police were following a vehicle driven by a man possibly wanted for a shooting in Plymouth last month. The pursuit began in Plymouth, traveled up Route 3 and ended in Braintree, where the suspect ditched the vehicle on Allen Street and witnesses reported seeing three black men flee on foot toward Weymouth Landing, police said.

All three suspects were in custody shortly after 3:30 p.m., following a search that involved officers from multiple jurisdictions, including K-9 units and the Massachusetts State Police air wing.

Braintree schools delayed dismissal and were under a “remain in place” order from the city’s police department. They were cleared for release before four, with the district telling parents buses would be late and thanking them for their patience.

The police search also impacted the Commuter Rail, stopping an inbound train from Greenbush and leading to delays on that line.
