Ravens QB Lamar Jackson on ‘horrible’ performance vs. Browns: ‘I played like a rookie’

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson didn’t have a lot of nice things to say about how he played Sunday night in a win over the Cleveland Browns.

“It was a horrible game,” Jackson said Wednesday.

Jackson finished 20-for-32 for 165 yards, a touchdown and a career-worst four interceptions. His passer rating (46.5) was the lowest of his career as a starter. At one point in the second quarter, he threw three picks in a span of five passes.

His first step forward Tuesday was to look at the film.

“Bad passes,” he said. “Inaccurate, underthrown passes. That’s all I see. Bad reads. I looked like a rookie.”

He added: “I need to feel it. I need to feel that pain. Now that’s pain right there. Defenses are making great stops, and I’m putting my defense back out there right away.”

Jackson said his return from a mystery illness that sidelined him in Week 11 was “no excuse” for how he played Sunday. The performance wasn’t all bad, of course. Jackson had 17 carries for a game-high 68 yards, and his two highlight-reel scrambles for completions, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Mark Andrews, powered a third-quarter touchdown drive that proved decisive.

But Jackson acknowledged the offense’s room for improvement. A strong showing in Week 13 against the Pittsburgh Steelers will help put Sunday’s struggles in the rearview mirror.

“I feel good this week,” he said. “But, like, no excuses. That was just a bad performance. Four interceptions. I hope that never, ever happens again. Not ever. But yeah, it was a poor performance.”
