Ravens ILB Patrick Queen’s rib injury not considered serious, coach John Harbaugh says

Ravens inside linebacker Patrick Queen’s rib injury, which briefly knocked him out of Sunday’s win over the Cleveland Browns, is “not something that should linger,” coach John Harbaugh said Monday.

Queen, who led the Ravens with eight tackles, including a game-high two tackles for loss, and had a fumble recovery, left the game in the third quarter after tackling tight end David Njoku. But he returned to action and said afterward that he was feeling “good.”

“I just tried to hit somebody that was a little bit bigger than me,” Queen joked after the 16-10 win. “I took the effects of it, but that’s football — it comes with it. So I’m just happy that I’m still healthy. Thank God for that.”

Harbaugh said the Ravens avoided serious injury during Sunday’s game, but he cautioned that with how “things have popped up late, I’m not saying definitive yet that way. But we look OK.” The team has 16 players on injured reserve, including two recent additions in outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (knee) and rookie safety Ar’Darius Washington (foot).

Tight end Nick Boyle, who missed practice Friday with a rest/knee designation, was limited to 10 snaps after playing 32 in his 2021 debut last week against the Chicago Bears. Harbaugh said the Ravens’ approach on offense affected Boyle’s participation, but he acknowledged that Boyle is “still coming back, still trying to get the knee stronger.” Sunday’s game was his first in Baltimore since a season-ending knee injury suffered last November.

“Hopefully, it’ll keep getting stronger and he’ll be able to take more and more snaps as we go,” Harbaugh said.

Campbell’s concussion

Defensive lineman Calais Campbell missed his first game this season Sunday, sidelined by a concussion that Harbaugh said he suffered in the win over the Bears.

Campbell’s symptoms first appeared last Monday, according to Harbaugh, and they were considered mild. But “they just never cleared,” he said.

Depending on when Campbell clears the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol, he could practice this week, or not practice and still play in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even without Campbell, maybe the defense’s most consistent performer this season, the Ravens held the Cleveland Browns’ vaunted running game to a season-low 40 yards Sunday.
