Patriots QB Cam Newton loves being able to feed off the crowd once again
Cam Newton loves to play to the crowd. He loves to feed off their energy. Only last year, due to the pandemic, there was no crowd, and no boosts coming from the stands.
Getting back to a semblance of normalcy, with crowds attending training camp practices, and been a welcome sight for the Patriots quarterback.
Since the start of camp, Newton has engaged with fans in the stands, pumping them up, and occasionally delivering a football their way.
“Me personally, I look forward to the fans. You feed off the cheers. You feed off the ooh’s, the ah’s and even the boos,” Newton said during his media session Friday. “I can’t judge another person. We’ve been away from it for so long that when you see it now, it’s almost like, ‘Is this normal?’
“For a minute, I can say this boldfully, it kind of feels surreal,” he went on. “When you come out here, you got fans, screaming and hollering and that’s a good thing. But it tells you what it once was and hopefully it can stay the same as we all obviously know what’s going on in the country right now.”
Newton has walked out to cheers every day, with many shouting, “Go Cam!” from the stands. He said he plans on continuing to give away as many footballs as he can.
“I’m a guy who wears his emotions on his sleeve. I need that energy. Then, the football giveaway, that’s nothing new for me,” he said. “I plan on giving a lot more footballs away. Hopefully a lot more on Sundays and really get the fans really involved, from the kids to the fans and everybody alike.”
