Massachusetts weather outlook: Warmer, sunnier days ahead after rainy, gross weekend
The sun has been nowhere to be seen for the first unofficial weekend of summer, but there’s a chance we’ll see some rays on Memorial Day ahead of a warming trend this week.
After unseasonable cool temps and raw rainy weather arrived for the Massachusetts reopening weekend, forecasters expect a more comfortable and drier day on Monday.
Then temps should continue to rise on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“It should be much more pleasant this week,” said Kristie Smith, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “It should be dry for a lot of the week.”
Following Sunday’s cold raw day for late May, rain should finally taper off in the morning on Monday. Temps should jump into the 60s, with some partial sunshine possible too.
Then on Tuesday, it should get much warmer, rising into the mid 70s.
“It should be much more seasonable and dry,” said Smith, who’s based in NWS Boston’s Norton office.
Wednesday should be in the upper 70s and could even hit 80 in some parts of the state.
The next chance for precipitation is Thursday, when there will be a chance for thunderstorms.
Before Sunday evening’s forecasted rain, about 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches of rain had already fallen on much of the region. This significant rainfall came after the state was trending drier during the last two weeks.
“We had been starting to dry things out, so this put to bed any concerns of an impending drought,” Smith said. “The rain we just got doubled the precipitation for the month in the last two days, helping put us above normal for May rainfall.”
