Red Sox’ Alex Verdugo exits with hamstring injury
Just to make things worse, the Red Sox lost their best player to an injured hamstring on Friday night.
Alex Verdugo, their most valuable player by every major metric, exited the Red Sox’ game with the Yankees in the fourth inning after grabbing his leg following an awkward slide into second base.
The Sox announced that Verdugo left the game with left hamstring tightness.
The energetic outfielder slid into second, jumped up and started a quick turn toward third, then stopped himself and ran back to second. He appeared to hurt himself on the turn and immediately grabbed at his left hamstring area. He stayed in the game and was thrown out at third on a fielder’s choice, then exited down the tunnel for treatment and was replaced by Tzu-Wei Lin.
Verdugo is hitting .328 this season, his first since being acquired from the Dodgers in the Mookie Betts trade.
