Donald Trump denies report he paid $750 in federal income taxes, Joe Biden campaign jumps on story

President Trump on Monday denied the bombshell report that revealed he only paid $750 in federal income taxes in recent years, while Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign has already jumped on the news by selling stickers for $7.50.

The New York Times on Sunday reported that Trump paid only $750 in federal income taxes in recent years, and paid no income taxes at all in 10 of the previous 15 years.

Trump on Monday went after The New York Times, tweeting, “The Fake News Media, just like Election time 2016, is bringing up my Taxes & all sorts of other nonsense with illegally obtained information & only bad intent. I paid many millions of dollars in taxes but was entitled, like everyone else, to depreciation & tax credits.”

“Also, if you look at the extraordinary assets owned by me, which the Fake News hasn’t, I am extremely under leveraged — I have very little debt compared to the value of assets,” the president tweeted.

Biden’s campaign is already trying to capitalize on the eye-opening report by selling “I Paid More In Taxes Than Donald Trump” stickers for $7.50.

The campaign is also selling T-shirts with the same slogan, with the purchase being a donation to the Biden Victory Fund.

“Whether it’s $7.50, $75, or $750 — every donation makes a big difference during this final stretch,” Biden tweeted. “Chip in to help us get Donald Trump out of the White House.”

The Team Joe Twitter account also posted a video with the typical income taxes for elementary school teachers ($7,239), firefighters ($5,283), construction managers ($16,447) and registered nurses ($10,216).

“Donald Trump paid $750,” Team Joe wrote.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ripped Trump over the report, saying that the president has taken “extraordinary measures … to game the tax code and avoid paying his fair share of taxes, while hard working Americans are.”

“This report provides further evidence of the clear need for the Ways and Means lawsuit spearheaded by Chairman Neal to access Trump’s tax returns and ensure the presidential audit program is functioning effectively, without improper influence,” Pelosi said.

Massachusetts U.S. Rep. Richard Neal said it appears Trump has “gamed the tax code to his advantage and used legal fights to delay or avoid paying what he owes.”

“I remain confident that the law is on the Committee’s side, and that our request meets the standard the Supreme Court set with its July 2020 rulings,” Neal said. “Our case is very strong, and we will ultimately prevail.”
