Duxbury continues dominance of Hingham, Patriot League

HINGHAM — In what looked to be a big game on both sides, it was the big play that aided Duxbury in its continued dominance in Patriot League play Friday night.

In the 150th career victory for coach Dave Maimaron, senior Will Prouty totaled 414 yards and five touchdowns as Duxbury cruised to a 41-20 win over Hingham for its 55th straight in the league.

“I’m not thinking about stuff like that (tonight),” Maimaron said about the milestone. “But that’s a great sign of what this program has done for the last 15 years. It’s a lot of wins in 15 years and that’s a lot of great kids and great coaches. It’s pride for the program.”

The big-play ability was apparent from the start as Duxbury (2-2) scored on just three plays. Prouty took it in from 26 yards, two plays after a 34-yard pass from Prouty to sophomore Bowman Rhinesmith, to give the Dragons a 7-0 edge less than a minute into the contest.

Prouty finished with 244 yards through the air, including three TD passes, with two of those coming in the second half.

“It’s all on my receivers and the coaching,” said Prouty about being able to hit the throws downfield. “My receivers, they played amazing today. All practice they were working hard.”

The first of two touchdown throws came on a 52-yard strike to sophomore Brady Madigan to make it a 35-13 contest, after the Harbormen cut it to a two-score game on a Will O’Brien 30-yard touchdown throw to senior captain Cole Finney.

The second came midway through the fourth to ice the win as Prouty found senior Drake Hadley for a 4-yard score on third down.

In the first half, Hingham (3-1) got on the board right after the Dragons scored as they drove 13 plays for 69 yards to knot the score 7-7. Senior Owen O’Brien escaped a collapsing pocket to scramble into the end zone from 17 yards with 2:59 left in the first. Hingham also scored on an 83-yard sideline run for senior Grady Harrington to end the third.

Duxbury scored on its next two drives as a 43-yard grab for Madigan eventually set up a 1-yard keeper for Prouty to make it 14-7 early in the second. A 50-yard strike from Prouty to Madigan into the end zone made it 21-7 after a fumble was recovered by Campbell Pang.

The Dragons added on as they took it 58 yards on seven plays in just 1:41 to make it 28-7 on a 5-yard TD run for Tim Landolfi with 18 seconds left in the first half.
