Patriots seemingly bench cornerback Jack Jones in first quarter vs. Commanders

FOXBORO — The Patriots deployed an expected starter Sunday against the Commanders.

The Patriots started cornerback Shaun Wade over J.C. Jackson and Jack Jones in Week 9. Wade played opposite Jonathan Jones as an outside cornerback for the first two series while Myles Bryant entered the field when the Patriots went with three cornerbacks.

Jackson replaced Wade on the third defensive series. Jack Jones did not play in the first quarter and seemed disengaged, sitting on the bench with a towel around his neck at times while the rest of the defensive reserves were closer to the sideline. At one point, he got up to ride a stationary bike.

Jack Jones did finally take the field with 11:12 left in the second quarter on the Patriots’ fourth defensive series.

Jackson allowed two touchdowns in Week 8 against the Dolphins. Jack Jones was involved in a defensive breakdown on the Dolphins’ final touchdown to wide receiver Jaylen Waddle last week.

Jack Jones began the season on injured reserve with a hamstring ailment before returning in the Patriots’ Week 7 win over the Bills. He was arrested this offseason for allegedly bringing loaded pistols and ammunition in a carry-on bag at Logan Airport but charges against him were dropped.
