Yankees’ Carlos Rodón leaves start with hamstring injury

Carlos Rodón’s sixth start with the Yankees came to a premature end on Sunday, as the southpaw left Sunday’s game against the Astros due to left hamstring tightness in the third inning, the team announced.

Rodón, whose season was delayed by forearm and back injuries, departed with a trainer and Aaron Boone after throwing a few test pitches. He also exited to boos after allowing five earned runs and two homers over 2.2 innings. The first home run, a three-run blast from Jake Meyers, came after a missed check swing call on Jeremy Peña, but Rodón didn’t help himself with two walks.

He also struck out five over 58 pitches.

Rodón’s Yankees career has gotten off to a rough start. In addition to multiple injuries, he owns a 7.33 ERA after signing a six-year, $162 million contract over the offseason.

His latest injury could put the Yankees’ rotation in a worse spot than it was already in. With Domingo Germán receiving treatment for alcohol abuse and Luis Severino struggling, the Yankees were already testing their depth.

Jhony Brito, who has served as a spot starter all year, relieved Rodón on Sunday. Randy Vásquez has filled a similar role this season.
