Patriots center David Andrews ‘excited to learn’ from new offensive coaches
EVERETT – David Andrews made sure to get plenty of scouting reports on Bill O’Brien before meeting him recently.
Between former Patriots, as well as friends who played for the Texans, the Patriots veteran center got all the intel he needed on the team’s new offensive coordinator.
“I’m excited to get the chance to work with him. I’m excited to get the chance to learn something,” said Andrews, who spent the morning reading to third and fourth graders at the Lafayette School as part of Read Across America Day. “That’s part of it. We have new coaches, that’s how it goes.”
Given he lives locally, Andrews was able to hook up with O’Brien recently.
Andrews, a Georgia alum, said he’ll forgive O’Brien for working the past two years at SEC rival Alabama especially if he gets the Patriots offense back on track.
“Obviously, he has college coaching experience, experience in the NFL as an offensive coordinator,” said Andrews. “Obviously, he was at Alabama the last two years . . . but I’m excited to get to learn from him. There will soon be some new things, new things I want to understand about the game of football because I love it.”
Along with a new offensive coordinator, Andrews will also have a new offensive line coach with Adrian Klemm, a former Patriots lineman, taking over.
Andrews indicated he had also spoken with Klemm.
“Connor McDermott played for him at UCLA,” said Andrews. “Connor likes him, but again, I’m excited to see how he sees the game, what I can learn, and what he can bring to help me, and help our team.”
