Beyoncé ties husband Jay-Z with most Grammy nominations ever
It’s another crowning achievement for Queen Bey.
Beyoncé received nine Grammy nominations on Tuesday, tying her with husband Jay-Z for the most of any artist ever with 88.
The superstar singer’s nine nods lead all artists at the 2023 ceremony and include nominations in the three biggest categories of album, song and record of the year. Her chart-topping “Renaissance” is up for album of the year, while its lead single “Break My Soul” is a finalist in the song and record categories.
She’s up against Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles and Lizzo, who are also each nominated in all three categories.
Bronx-born R&B singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige also had a big day, receiving six nominations, including for album of the year for “Good Morning Gorgeous” and record of the year for its title track.
Adele’s chart-topping “30″ is nominated for album of the year, while “Easy on Me” is up for the top song and record honors. The English-born Adele swept the three categories in 2012 and 2017 on the strength of her previous two albums, “21″ and “25.”
The 65th edition of the Grammys is set to take place Feb. 5 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The show won’t be without controversy, as the nominees in the best comedy album category include Dave Chappelle for “The Closer” and Louis C.K. for “Sorry.” Chappelle drew criticism for jokes about transgender people on 2021′s “The Closer” stand-up special, while C.K. confessed to sexual misconduct in 2017.
C.K. won best comedy album at the 2022 Grammys for “Sincerely, Louis C.K.,” while Chappelle’s “8:46″ was nominated for best spoken word album at that ceremony. Tuesday’s nomination marks Chappelle’s fourth for best comedy album.
