MBTA Blue Line service affected by utility pole fire
Train service was halted on the Blue Line Monday night while crews worked to extinguish a utility pole fire near the tracks.
The Revere Fire Department responded to the fire “just outside the Blue Line right of way” shortly before 11 p.m., MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said.
“Train service was paused for about 18 minutes while firefighters extinguished the flames,” Pesaturo said. “The utility pole is not part of MBTA infrastructure nor property.”
Video from Twitter user Roger Prata, who was on an affected Blue Line train, shows flames falling from a swinging pole onto the ground adjacent to the tracks.
“When this was going on, I was thinking about how I better make alternate plans for work tomorrow,” he said on Twitter. “Thank goodness it didn’t totally cut power to the tracks.”
