Boston Police arrest South Boston man on sexual-assault charge

The cops say they have arrested a man in connection to one of the two sexual assaults that caused concern in South Boston over the weekend.

Derek Leslie, 32, of Southie, has been cuffed on a warrant for one count of indecent assault and battery.

Police and the courts in Massachusetts refuse as a matter of policy to give out much information on many sexual-assault cases, and this is no exception — the Monday arrest announcement contained no further information about the allegations against him.

This follows a similarly scant release Saturday in which police wrote, “The Boston Police Sexual Assault Unit is currently investigating two reports of Indecent Assault and Batteries that occurred in the area of East Broadway Street and Dorchester Street.”

Police did not say when the assaults in Southie occurred, whether they were connected, what happened in them or any other details.

Leslie was only picked up on charges relating to one of the incidents, but police in the Monday announcement of his arrest did mention the second one, saying, “Detectives are actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding both of these incidents. Anyone with information regarding these incidents is urged to call detectives directly at (617) 343-4400.”
