Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron takes home Selke again
If Patrice Bergeon does decide to retire, he made a little history in his final season.
Bergeron won his record fifth Selke Award given the the NHL’s best defensive forward, pushing him out of a tie with Montreal Canadien great Bob Gainey. He had been a finalist in a record 11 straight seasons but it was is first win since 2017.
Bergeron romped the competition, garnering 160 of 195 first place votes. He got 1,798 total poiints in the voting to second-place finisher Elias Lindholm of Calgary, who got 878 points and just 21 first place votes. Florida’s Sasha Barkov was third with 10 first place votes. It was the most decisive margin of his five wins.
It should have been. The B’s captain led the league in most possession statistics, including faceoff wins (991) and faceoff win percentage (61.9%) as well as Corsi For (65.58%), as well as expcted goals against per 60 (1.56), scoring chances against per 60 (18.85) and high danger attempts per 60 (6.26).
