Red Sox manager Alex Cora tests positive for COVID-19, will not travel to St. Petersburg for series against Rays

Red Sox manager Alex Cora tested positive for COVID-19 and is not managing Thursday’s game against the Blue Jays, the team announced.

Cora tested positive shortly before the game and will not travel to St. Petersburg for this weekend’s series against the Rays. Bench coach Will Venable is managing Thursday’s game, and presumably will continue to manage while Cora is out.

Cora, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, has mild symptoms, the Red Sox said.
