WR Kristian Wilkerson back on practice squad, but for how long?
Wide receiver Kristian Wilkerson reverted back to the Patriots practice squad on Monday, but given how well he performed against the Jaguars, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was once again elevated to play against Miami on Sunday.
With Nelson Agholor (concussion) not available, and N’Keal Harry a healthy scratch, Wilkerson got a shot and delivered with four catches for 42 yards, and two touchdowns.
Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels raved about the Southeast Missouri State product during a video call Tuesday, so there’s a good chance he’ll be seen again.
McDaniels lauded Wilkerson’s attitude, said he’s been competitive in practices, and has also been valuable for his work on the scout team. McDaniels said the wideout just continues to “work his butt off” and does anything that’s asked to try and help the team.
“Kristian’s attitude has been fantastic. His work ethic is awesome. He really does a lot of things you like in a young player, and continues to try to strive to improve,” said McDaniels. “Not surprising that he went in there and knew what to do, and did his job well and made some plays for us. He’ll be the first to tell you there’s room for improvement from what we saw in the game. I know he’ll work hard to try and make that progress this week.”
Wilkerson, who has been elevated twice, can be called up one more time during the regular season.
Players can be elevated from the practice squad as many as three times. After that, teams have to sign the players to the 53-man roster. Those rules could change in the post-season, as they did last year due to the pandemic.
