Bruins re-sign Tuukka Rask to team-friendly deal
Tuukka Rask is a Boston Bruin once again.
After a lengthy and apparently successful rehabilitation from offseason hip surgery, and an assignment to Providence that was scuttled by COVID issues last week, Rask officially inked his NHL deal with the Bruins on Tuesday, something that has seemed like an inevitability for months now.
In a radio interview last August, Rask joked that he’d play for Bud Lights. He actually might be able to afford some fancy imported brew with his new contract, but he certainly did the Bruins a solid with his deal. Rask signed a one-year deal worth $1 million, which will pay him $545,000 because of signing midway through the season. The deal was first reported by puckpedia.com and confirmed by the Herald.
Rask, the all-time winningest Bruin goalie, could get back between the pipes as early as Wednesday against the struggling Montreal Canadiens. We shall soon find out when he will make his return, as well as what the plan will be for the entire goaltending picture. Jeremy Swayman can be sent to Providence without being exposed to waivers, which would seem like the path of least resistance. Whether they exercise that option remains to be seen.
