Boston pot dealer sentenced for illegal distribution, falsifying taxes
A 36-year-old Boston man will do time for illegal marijuana dealing and falsifying his taxes after failing to pay more than $150,000 in income taxes.
Zachary Sweener, 36, was sentenced to three months in prison and three months of supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, one count of filing a false tax return and two counts of failing to file tax returns.
Sweener will also have to pay $156,457 in restitution.
During a 2017 search of Sweener’s home, authorities recovered 1,000 marijuana vape pens, more than $90,000 cash, and other “luxury items,” according to Acting U.S. Attorney Nathaniel Mendell’s office.
He also failed to report over $625,000 in income in his tax returns from 2013 to 2015.
Sweener was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni in federal court in Springfield Thursday.
