UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford has relieved head football coach Walt Bell of his duties in the aftermath on Saturday’s 35-22 loss to Rhode Island, an FCS program, at McGuirk Stadium.
UMass dropped to 1-8 on the season with Rhode Island’s second win over an FBS program. Offensive line coach Alex Miller, a 2007 UMass alum, has been named interim coach with three games remaining. Miller will call the shots when UMass hosts Maine on Saturday.
