Patriots WR N’Keal Harry reacts to staying put at NFL trade deadline
FOXBORO — It was less than four months ago that N’Keal Harry’s agent went public with a trade request after months of behind-the-scenes work to get Harry out of New England.
But instead of getting dealt, the former first-round pick stayed put. He enjoyed a solid training camp, started the season on injured reserve and has since caught five passes in five games for 77 yards. Harry set a season high with two grabs last Sunday in Los Angeles.
A couple days later, as the NFL’s trade deadline passed without the Patriots making any moves, he said he was never that concerned about changing teams.
“Yeah, I’m a Patriot,” Harry told reporters Wednesday. “I said it earlier, I want to do anything I can to help this team win. That’s my focus. … I wasn’t worried about anything trade-wise.”
Pats wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who signed as a rookie free agent two days after Harry was drafted and has out-performed him every year, has routinely voiced his support for Harry. He did so again Wednesday.
“He came in here with high expectations. A lot of people would say that he probably didn’t live up to them, but he’s still coming to work every day. He works to be the best man that he can be, to go hard,” Meyers said. “He works hard in practice. I’m going to always be proud of N’Keal.”
