Man shot to death by Boston Police had history of attacking officers: source
A man who police shot to death after he attacked and stabbed an officer had a history of attacking law enforcement officials and previously choked an officer to the point of unconsciousness, a police source said.
The police officer — who was stabbed in the neck and head during the attack — is expected to survive. A Boston Police spokesman said the officer was doing “good” on Sunday morning, but declined to provide further details about his condition.
Cops were responding to a domestic violence call at 27 Ingleside St. in Dorchester at about 6:15 p.m. on Saturday when two officers making their way up the stairs encountered a knife-wielding man, Superintendent-in-Chief Greg Long told reporters at the scene later that night.
The man attacked as police entered the home, stabbing one officer in the neck and head, according to authorities. The other officer fired at the man, fatally hitting him.
Boston Police officials have not yet identified the man. A department spokesman said an identification would be withheld until the medical examiner completes an autopsy.
But sources in the department said the man is the same person who previously choked-out a female officer in 2018 to the point of unconsciousness after she responded to the Ingleside address for a domestic violence call.
Police did not reveal any additional information about the officers, or the knife, other than that they found one on the scene. It was not revealed what precipitated the call.
The area around the intersections of Ingleside, which is a tiny one-block side street, and Blue Hill Avenue and Dacia Street was shut down and swarming with officers hours after the stabbing and shooting.
Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ office is investigating the shooting by an officer, as is standard protocol.
