Khalil Mack will undergo foot surgery and be placed on injured reserve, ending the Chicago Bears edge rusher’s season

Khalil Mack’s 2021 season is over.

The Chicago Bears standout edge rusher is scheduled to have foot surgery, a league source confirmed, and the Bears will now place him on injured reserve. The NFL Network was first with the news.

The team signed veteran edge rusher Bruce Irvin to the practice squad Friday and promoted Cassius Marsh to the active roster in moves made to aid the defense’s pass rush going forward.

Mack has been battling a foot injury since October and has missed the team’s last two games against the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers. He had six sacks in the seven games he did play this season and was off to a fast start.

The Bears held their final practice of the week Friday at Halas Hall.
