Another Massachusetts State‌ ‌Trooper‌ ‌arrested‌ ‌on ‌domestic‌ ‌assault‌ ‌charges

State Trooper Jordan Cavaco was arrested by his own agency for alleged domestic violence after his ex-girlfriend said he left her with face and neck injuries after a night out drinking in Boston.

“The facts as alleged by the victim are unconscionable,” Col. Christopher Mason said. “Allegations of domestic violence committed by anyone, regardless of occupation or affiliation, will be thoroughly investigated and, if the evidence warrants, will be swiftly answered by criminal charges and prosecution.”

Cavaco, a 27-year-old 2020 graduate of the State Police Academy and a Brockton resident, was suspended without pay from his duties for the duration of the criminal and internal investigations and criminal prosecution. He most recently was assigned to the Division of Field Services at the State Police-Framingham Barracks.

Cavaco was arraigned in Dorchester District Court today on charges of strangulation, kidnapping and assault and battery on a family or household member. Cavaco’s bail was set at $2,500. If he posts bail, he’s been ordered to stay out of Fall River, where the alleged victim lives and works, except for approved visits to his attorney’s office.

According to police reports provided to the Herald, the alleged incident happened on May 28, during the rainy Memorial Day weekend. The alleged victim said Cavaco grew increasingly agitated during a night out in Boston with friends after he struggled to find parking for 45 minutes and had several shots of alcohol. Tension between Cavaco and his now-ex-girlfriend escalated when he made an inappropriate comment about another woman, the report states.

On the way home, the woman noticed Cavaco driving erratically, and thought he was too drunk to drive, police report.

She told him to get off his phone while driving and grabbed it out of his hand, police said. Cavaco then pulled over on I-93 South in Dorchester, where the report states he started choking the woman with his hand and forearm for 5 minutes and put his whole body on her, while screaming at her for his phone back.

He later allegedly punched her in the face multiple times, and when the woman attempted to exit the car, he forced her back into the car, police said. The police report notes that, as the woman described the incident to State Police, she began tearing up and shaking.

At Cavaco’s home in Brockton later that night, he broke the locked door down where the woman was as she was talking to herself, as he believed she was talking to someone else, the report adds.

The Massachusetts State Police became aware of the allegations against Cavaco last week when the victim filed a report with a local police department. In court, prosecutors said she filed for a restraining order against Cavaco in Fall River over allegations of “obsessive” text messages after their breakup in July.

Cavaco made headlines earlier this year when he helped a woman deliver a baby on the side of the highway, a fact his lawyer brought up in court Wednesday.
