Patriots OT Trent Brown day-to-day with calf injury, per report
Patriots right tackle Trent Brown left Sunday’s season opener against Miami after one drive with a calf injury.
He later returned to the sideline in uniform, but didn’t play another snap. Brown’s mere presence indicated the injury wasn’t serious, but the Pats opted to keep him on the bench all the way through the end of their eventual 17-16 defeat.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there’s reason to believe Brown will play Week 2 at the Jets.
Per Schefter, the injury is considered “minor,” and the team has described Brown as day-to-day. The 6-foot-8, 380-pounder returned to New England last March in a trade with the Raiders. He’s since expressed he feels at home with the Patriots, with whom he won a Super Bowl in 2018.
With Brown, the Pats could field a top-5 offensive line this season. Without him, they could put rookie quarterback Mac Jones at risk of increased pressure, as seen Sunday when he was hit or hurried on 42% of their offensive snaps.
