Revolution have four named to MLS All-Star team
The stars tend to align on the team with the best record in MLS.
The 11-3-3 New England Revolution had four players named to the MLS All-Star team’s 23-man roster the league announced on Wednesday. MLS will engage an All-Star collaboration from LIGA BBVA MX on Aug. 25 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Revs quartet features keeper Matt Turner, midfielders Carles Gil and Tajon Buchanan, and striker Gustavo Bou, who has 10 goals on the season.
Turner is 7-3-3 in MLS and last Sunday he backstopped the U.S. Men’s National team to the CONCACAF Gold Cup championship with a 1-0 win over Mexico. Turner allowed just one goal in six Gold Cup games and was named Best Goalkeeper.
Buchanan, 22, competed for the Canadian National team and was recognized as the tournament’s Best Young Player for his skills as a playmaker and finisher.
Gil is the most complete player in MLS with a league-best 15 assists and two goals. Gil tops MLS in several significant categories and is a master at creating chances for his teammates on set pieces. He was the MLS Player of the Month in June.
Bou has emerged as one of the most lethal and efficient scorers with nine goals in his last 10 appearances in a dual striker role with Adam Buksa.
