Woman dead after Roslindale shooting, Boston police say

A woman has died following a daytime shooting in Roslindale earlier in the week.

Boston Police responded to reports of a person shot in the Boston neighborhood around 1:18 p.m. Thursday, and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound near the intersection of Corinth and Birch streets.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, and later pronounced dead, police announced on Friday.

There’s little further information available, and police didn’t release the woman’s name.

The cops continue to investigate, and ask anyone with information to call Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617-343-4470. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can call the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or text the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

This is the 13th fatal shooting reported by police this year. That’s down from 27 as of a week ago in 2020, and below the five-year average of around 23 to this point in the year. Violence — which has spiked in some other American cities this summer — remains down in Boston over last year.

Per the most recent data from the start of the week, Boston had seen 20 homicides, though that doesn’t count this Roslindale shooting. At that same point last year, there had been 30 killings.

Gun arrests are up, with 358 this year as opposed to 276 last year.
