Occupant and firefighter taken to hospital after 2-alarm Dorchester blaze

One house occupant and a firefighter were taken to the hospital on Saturday after a two-alarm blaze at a Dorchester home, authorities said.

The fire broke out at about 11 a.m. at 115 Adams St., said Brian Alkins, a Boston Fire Department spokesman.

When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the rear of the 2-1/2-story, wood-frame home, Alkins said.

One man was inside, he said, and firefighters led him out of the building.

The man and a firefighter who suffered minor injuries were taken to the hospital, Alkins said.

The fire was on the first and second floors and the attic, he said, and although the cause is still under investigation, the blaze “definitely” started in the rear of the house.

About 50 firefighters had the blaze under control within about 40 minutes, Alkins said.

The blaze caused about $250,000 in damage, he said.
