Massachusetts reports 3 new coronavirus deaths, 76 cases as hospitalizations go down
Massachusetts health officials on Thursday reported three new coronavirus deaths and 76 new virus cases, as COVID hospitalizations ticked down across the Bay State.
The daily rates of deaths and cases have been staying at record low levels amid the state’s vaccine rollout. More than 4.2 million people have been fully vaccinated.
After the three new COVID deaths and 76 new cases, the daily average of deaths is now 1.3 and the daily average of cases is now 60.
There are 102 COVID patients in hospitals across the state, which is a drop of eight patients from Wednesday’s report. The pandemic low was 94 patients last week.
There are now 29 patients in intensive care units, and 11 patients are intubated.
The average percent positivity has ticked up a bit from the pandemic low last week. The percent positivity is now 0.37%, up from the record low of 0.30% last week.
More than 8.6 million total vaccine doses have been administered in the state, and more than 4.2 million people are now fully vaccinated, according to Thursday’s vaccine report. Last week, the state hit its goal of 4.1 million fully vaxxed people.
Overall, the more than 8.6 million total doses administered breaks down to: more than 4.4 million people who have received one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; more than 3.9 million people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 276,430 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The state’s total recorded death toll is 17,997 following the three deaths reported on Thursday.
With July starting, the state Department of Public Health announced that some daily and weekly coronavirus dashboard reporting will be updated to “reflect the improving trends in COVID-19 activity in the Commonwealth.”
DPH’s daily dashboard and the daily vaccine report will move from seven days per week to five days per week, Monday to Friday. Data from Saturdays and Sundays will be included in Monday’s report.
