Massachusetts coronavirus cases increase by 79 with hospitalizations under 100
Health officials on Friday reported one new coronavirus death and 79 new virus cases, with hospitalizations dipping below 100.
The daily rates of deaths and cases have been staying at record low levels amid the state’s vaccine rollout.
After the one new COVID-19 death and 79 new cases, the daily average of deaths is now 1.3, the lowest since the start of the pandemic, and the daily average of cases is now 59, which is also the lowest rate on record.
There are 98 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state, which is a drop of four patients from Thursday’s report. The pandemic low was 94 patients last week.
There are now 28 patients in intensive care units, and 10 patients are intubated. The seven-day average of coronavirus hospitalizations is now 100, which is the lowest it has been since the start of the pandemic. The previous record low was 155 in August.
The average percent positivity has ticked up a bit from the pandemic low last week. The percent positivity for virus testing is now 0.38%, up from the record low of 0.30% last week.
As of Friday, more than 9.6 million vaccine doses have been shipped to the state and more than 8.6 million have been given out, according to the daily vaccine report from the state Department of Public Health.
About 60% of all Massachusetts residents are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and 62% have received at least one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
As July has started, the state Department of Public Health announced that some daily and weekly coronavirus dashboard reporting will be updated to “reflect the improving trends in COVID-19 activity in the Commonwealth.”
The DPH’s daily dashboard and the daily vaccine report will move from seven days per week to five days per week, Monday to Friday. Data from Saturdays and Sundays will be included in Monday’s report. Active cases will no longer be reported.
