Ticker: Amazon plans massive warehouse in Charlton; R.I. wind project gets OK from coastal regulators
Online retail giant Amazon plans to build a 1 million-square-foot warehouse in central Massachusetts, company representatives say.
Brad Griggs of Amazon told the Charlton select board this week that the warehouse would be a large-scale fulfillment and distribution center, similar to a facility operating in North Andover, The Telegram & Gazette reported.
The center would bring more than 1,000 full-time jobs, most of which would start at $15 per hour, he said.
The next step for the developer is to file with the state for an environmental impact review, and to submit plans to the town Planning Board for site plan review.
The anticipated groundbreaking is March 2022, with occupancy in 2023.
R.I. wind project gets OK from coastal regulators
Rhode Island coastal regulators have given a proposed wind farm off the state’s coast critical approval over the objections of the fishing industry and some environmentalists.
The vote Wednesday by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council in favor of the South Fork Wind Farm moves the project one step closer to reality.
Fishermen objected, arguing that a compensation package agreed to with developers Orsted and Eversource will not make up for the loss of fishing grounds, The Providence Journal reported.
The environmental group Save The Bay said the 130-megawatt wind farm is being placed in the wrong spot in Rhode Island Sound, an area home to a rich diversity of fish.
