Red Sox receive three prospects to complete Andrew Benintendi trade
Nearly four months later, the Andrew Benintendi trade is finally complete.
The Red Sox, who sent Benintendi to the Royals in a three-team trade (which also included the Mets) that brought them back five players on February 10, announced the remaining three players to be named later, who are all minor leaguers, on Friday. They were right-handed pitchers Luis De La Rosa and Grant Gambrell (Royals) and outfielder Freddy Valdez (Mets).
The Red Sox had already received outfielder Franchy Cordero and right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski. Cordero started the season with the Red Sox before recently being demoted to Triple-A Worcester, while Winckowski has been tearing it up with Double-A Portland, posting a 1.33 ERA through five starts.
Entering Friday, Benintendi was batting .292 with a .751 OPS, five homers and 24 RBI in 51 games with the Royals.
