Nearly 3.9 million people in Massachusetts are now fully vaccinated, 100 new virus cases reported

Health officials say almost 3.9 million people are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, as the count of new virus cases in the state continues to stay low amid the vax rollout.

The state reported two more virus deaths and 100 new infections in its daily COVID report Tuesday, as the seven-day average of new virus cases continued to stay at an all-time low. Monday’s report of 89 new cases was the first daily report of less than 100 infections since last June.

With the Tuesday tally of 100 new cases, the state’s count of estimated active cases has dropped below 4,000. The active infection count is now 3,805 cases, a significant decline from 36,775 in April.

Meanwhile, more than 29,000 coronavirus vaccine shots were administered in Massachusetts during the last day of vax data. Nearly 3.9 million people in the Bay State are now fully vaccinated.

With 29,351 more vax doses administered, a total of 3,871,151 people in the state have officially been fully vaccinated.

The state is on track to hit its goal of fully vaccinating 4.1 million residents this month.

Overall, more than 8.1 million total doses have been administered — almost 4.3 million people have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; more than 3.6 million people have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 259,031 people have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The two new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,917. The daily average of deaths has plummeted amid the vaccine rollout.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is down to 0.52%, which is a pandemic-low record.

Statewide hospitalizations have also plunged during the vax rollout. Hospitalizations on Tuesday went down by eight patients, bringing the total to 173 patients. There are 57 patients in the ICU, and 31 patients are currently intubated.
