Massachusetts reports zero high-risk ‘red zone’ communities, more than 3.7 million people fully vaccinated

Zero Massachusetts communities are now at high risk for coronavirus as COVID-19 cases plummet during the vaccine rollout.

More than 3.7 million people in the Bay State are now fully vaccinated, state officials also reported on Thursday.

The count of cities and towns in the high-risk “red zone” has been plunging for several weeks. There was only one community in the red zone last week — Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard — and now there are no communities in the red, the state Department of Public Health weekly report shows.

Overall, more than 7.9 million vax doses have been given since the start of the state’s rollout, and 3,716,710 people are fully vaccinated, according to the latest vax data on Thursday. The state is on track to reach its goal of 4.1 million fully vaxxed people this month.

Meanwhile, state health officials on Thursday reported seven new virus deaths and 241 new cases.

Virus cases have been significantly lower amid the vax rollout. The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 5,099, way down from the estimated active case tally of 36,775 cases in April.

The seven-day average of 111 daily cases is the lowest case rate of the entire pandemic.

The seven-day average of percent positivity has dropped to 0.62%, which is also a pandemic-low record.

Thursday’s seven new virus deaths bring the state’s total confirmed death toll to 17,893. The seven-day average of confirmed deaths is down to four — also the lowest rate of the pandemic.

Statewide hospitalizations have also been plummeting amid the vaccine rollout. Hospitalizations on Thursday declined by 13 patients, bringing the total to 203 patients. There are 69 patients in the ICU, and 36 patients are currently intubated.
