Massachusetts again reports zero high-risk ‘red zone’ communities, more than 3.9 million people fully vaccinated

Zero Massachusetts communities are at high risk for coronavirus, the second straight week the Bay State has reported no “red zone” cities or towns as COVID-19 cases continue dropping amid the vaccine rollout.

More than 3.9 million people in the Bay State are now fully vaccinated, state officials also reported on Thursday.

The count of cities and towns in the high-risk “red zone” had been plummeting for several weeks until the state last week reported zero “red zone” communities for the first time.

Again this week, the state Department of Public Health report shows no communities in the red.

For the first time this week, zero communities are in yellow — which is considered to be moderate risk for COVID transmission.

Overall, more than 8.2 million vax doses have been given since the start of the state’s rollout, and 3,913,264 people are fully vaccinated, according to the latest vax data on Thursday. The state is on track to reach its goal of 4.1 million fully vaxxed people this month.

Meanwhile, state health officials on Thursday reported seven new virus deaths and 85 new cases.

Virus cases have been significantly lower amid the vax rollout. The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 3,191 infections, way down from the estimated active case tally of 36,775 cases in April.

The seven-day average of 97 daily cases is the lowest rate of the entire pandemic.

Thursday’s seven new virus deaths bring the state’s total confirmed death toll to 17,929. The seven-day average of confirmed deaths is down to four — also the lowest rate of the pandemic.

Statewide hospitalizations have also been plummeting amid the vaccine rollout. Hospitalizations on Thursday declined by two patients, bringing the total to 171 patients. There are 52 patients in the ICU, and 23 patients are currently intubated.
