Jerry Keefe named new head hockey coach at Northeastern
Newly minted Northeastern Athletic Director Jim Madigan did not conduct a nationwide search to find his replacement on the bench at Matthews Arena.
Madigan announced on Wednesday that Jerry Keefe has been named the 11th Fernie Flaman head men’s hockey coach at NU. Keefe served as Madigan’s assistant for three seasons and associate head coach over the last seven, a run that included three straight Beanpot championships, three NCAA appearances, one Hockey East title and produced eight All-Americans.
“I’m thrilled for him to have this opportunity to lead our hockey program to the next level,” said Madigan. “He’s been a dedicated, loyal coach and a member of the Northeastern community.
“I’m excited to watch his future and to watch our program grow and develop under his leadership.”
Keefe is a Billerica native who was a three-time all-scholastic and state champion at Matignon High School in Cambridge. Keefe was a four-year center at Providence College (1996-2000), where he played in 102 games with 30 goals and 68 assists.
