Gun-toting Springfield suspect caught on video held without bail
The Springfield man accused of taunting police during a chilling showdown in the city is being held in jail pending a dangerousness hearing on his alleged gunplay.
Jose Montanez, 43, was arrested Sunday evening after police said he waved his gun at them while running down the street. It was all caught on video by a city camera.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno told the Herald Monday night he’d “raise holy hell” if the suspect was not held. The dangerousness hearing is set for Thursday.
“Is this what it is coming to? Our courts are holding no one accountable, especially repeat violent criminal offenders who are allowed to run roughshod on our streets and neighborhoods, while our brave and dedicated men and women in blue risk their lives with arrest, after arrest, after arrest to keep all our residents and business community safe,” Sarno added.
As the Herald reported, Montanez is being held on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging it within 500 feet of a building, A&B with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace, along with other related counts.
