On anniversary of ‘Operation Warp Speed,’ Trump asks for a simple thank you

Former President Donald Trump wants some credit — especially now.

A year ago, “Operation Warp Speed” was set loose upon the nation bringing the coronavirus vaccine to millions. That’s allowed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to lift the mask mandate, in most cases, for those fully vaccinated.

Trump, president at the time and the one who urged the Department of Defense to get cracking, wants some thanks, he said Friday in a statement.

“Isn’t it incredible that because of the vaccines, which I and my Administration came up with years ahead of schedule … that we no longer need masks, and yet our names are not even mentioned in what everybody is calling the modern day miracle of the vaccines?” Trump wrote.

He added that without the vaccines, “this world would have been in for another 1917 Spanish Flu, where up to 100 million people died. Because of the vaccines we pushed and developed in record time, nothing like that will be even close to happening.”

He’s asking the Biden administration for “just a mention please! The Biden Administration had zero to do with it. All they did was continue our plan of distribution, which was working well right from the beginning!”

Nearly 120 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. That’s more than 36% of the population. Massachusetts is a leader in that category, too, ranked fourth in the U.S. at 45% vaccinated. Maine, Connecticut and Vermont top the list.
