Memorial Day weekend forecast: Massachusetts weather will be raw, ‘far from ideal’

The recent warm weather will disappear for Memorial Day weekend, just as people start flocking to the Cape and other beach communities for the unofficial start of summer.

A cooler and rainy long weekend is in store as Massachusetts fully opens up, according to the National Weather Service.

“Unfortunately, it’s going to be far from ideal,” said Andrew Loconto, meteorologist at National Weather Service Boston’s Norton office.

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it won’t be ideal for outdoor plans,” he added.

The cooler and more unsettled weather pattern starts to take hold on Friday when rain moves into the region during the evening. The soaking rain should stick around for a good part of Saturday, with temps in the low 50s.

“It’s definitely going to be a pretty raw Saturday,” Loconto said.

On Sunday, there could be a break from rain early in the day before another rain system during the second half of Sunday. Temps will be in the mid to upper 50s.

Then Monday will get warmer in the mid 60s, with a chance for partly sunny conditions later in the day.
