Grasso’s Garage: Genesis G80 is one classy ride
The world is missing out.
When I say missing out, I really mean, missing out. Standard luxury these days is a thing of the past, manufacturers love to create a basic automobile and give the consumer an array of options to choose from, most costing a significant amount of money. The vehicles you see on typical TV advertising, is a base model price that does not signify the image they presented. That is normally their top-of-the-line model with all the jazz added to it.
For Genesis, that’s not the way it works. For this week’s Grasso’s Garage weekly tester, we enjoy the sole remaining vehicle that we have not tested yet in the Genesis fleet, the G80; Genesis’ mid- to large-sized luxury sedan. This luxury vehicle is stupendous. Not only does it come with an array of standard options, but there are a limited number of package options that can be added to ultimately experience even more, mostly safety features.
Our G80 all-wheel-drive Prestige model came with the ever powerful 3.5 liter Turbo-GDI V6 engine producing, 375 ground-pounding horsepower and 391 lb.-ft. of torque. Not only was it powerful, but smooth and quiet at the same time. Genesis ensures that luxury not only rides good, but is not noisy in the cabin.
Heated front and rear seats, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, Premium Navigation, a 14.5 inch infotainment display screen and a digital instrument cluster with turn signal side-view camera are just a few of the G80’s features. Safety leads the way with 10 airbags, forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, blind-spot avoidance, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, rain sensing wipers and rear occupant alert.
Competition is pretty deep in the Luxury midsize sedan field with Audi’s A7, BMW’s 5-series and Cadillac’s CT5, but I feel the Genesis brings a lot to the table, all for the right price.
In our recent test of the G90, G70 and GV70, we noticed that there are no items missing in their definition of a luxury vehicle, thus we cannot think of anything better to choose from the market today.
