Donley leads balanced attack as Lincoln-Sudbury tops Longmeadow
SUDBURY — In what very well could be the matchup of the season, Lincoln-Sudbury put together a full team effort at home against a tough Longmeadow squad.
With strong defense for most of the contest and a fluid offense, the Warriors came away with an 11-6 win over non-league opponent Longmeadow on Friday afternoon.
“We played tough today,” said Lincoln-Sudbury coach Brian Vona. “One thing about our team. We don’t always have the execution that we want, but we have the heart and I will take that all day long.”
It was senior Hayden Donley who led the way with four goals and two assists, as he scored two of the first three and three of the first six to build a 6-2 halftime advantage for Lincoln-Sudbury (6-0).
“Someone had to get (Donley) the ball, too, and he will be the first one to tell you that,” Vona said. “He played great. I thought today was one of (the offense’s) best games.”
Donley added his fourth to make it a 9-3 lead at the end of three as the Warriors had three different players score in the third, including senior attack Andrew Toland, who had one score to go along with four assists.
“This was our first game with our offense really moving the ball well,” Donley said. “I thought we were flowing really well. I’m just one guy out of six, so I think all six guys out there played really well. … We are just playing great as a team right now.”
Senior Collin Murphy added his second with 2:45 to go to seal the game at 11-6 and end a 3-1 run to start the fourth for Longmeadow.
For Longmeadow (5-1), sophomore Coleson Hanrahan, junior Luke Szyluk and senior Richard Joseph each scored twice.
Not to be outdone, junior Nolan O’Brien notched 10 saves in net, including three in a critical second period.
