Controversial Weymouth compressor station releases 11,000 standard cubic feed of natural gas into air

A controversial natural gas compressor station in Weymouth on the banks of the Fore River basin vented more than 11,000 standard cubic feet of natural gas into the air — its fourth release since last fall.

The gas venting occurred during planned maintenance, according to reports.

The station, owned by Canadian-based Enbridge, is in the crosshairs of politicians following several unplanned gas releases and a targeted campaign by concerned neighbors attempting to bar the plant’s operations. A federal commission is currently reviewing the facility’s permit.

Another gas release happened on April 6 and two previous unplanned gas releases happened at the facility last fall.
