Boston Police cruiser on guard when Marty Walsh circles back home

John Kerry and Martin Walsh have a lot in common.

They’re both in President Biden’s inner circle, climate czar and Labor secretary, respectively.

They’re longtime Democratic Party stalwarts and they both qualify for a Boston Police cruiser outside their city pads when they are working from home.

“It was an agreement we had with the DOJ with Kerry and now we added Walsh,” Boston Police spokesman Sgt. Detective John Boyle said. “But the cruiser is there only when they are home.”

Overtime is not used to cover the shifts, but the calls coming in on the cruiser parked near the former mayor’s house are told it’s a security measure.

Walsh was sworn in as the 29th U.S. Secretary of Labor on March 23.

Even though it appears, by the cruiser on his street, that Walsh was working from home Thursday, his office was pumping out updates from all over the country.

In Gainesville, Fla., a roofing contractor was ordered to pay $31,000 in back wages to 30 workers, the Labor Department said. A Las Vegas air conditioning and heating company was also called out for lack of OT.

Walsh appointed 15 people to serve as members on the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health. A North Carolina food-service company can no longer bid on government contracts and Tampa, Fla., sushi restaurant workers rolled up $150,749 in back wages.

Plus weekly unemployment claims and Walsh won’t have to travel far for dinner at home in Boston.
