More than 58,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered in Massachusetts during the most recent day of vax data, while state health officials on Wednesday also reported 626 new virus cases and 13 new deaths a day after no new deaths were recorded.
More than 6.9 million doses have been given since the start of the state’s rollout and more than 3 million people are fully vaccinated, according to the state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Wednesday.
The grand total of 6.9 million breaks down to 3,857,773 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 2,823,166 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 226,888 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s an increase of 58,254 doses from Tuesday’s total.
Overall, 3,050,054 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated. The state hit the milestone of more than 3 million fully vaccinated people on Tuesday.
More than 8.2 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 84% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
Meanwhile, the state on Wednesday reported 626 new virus cases, as infections have recently been trending downward. The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 16,685 cases, a significant drop from 36,775 cases a few weeks ago. Monday’s count of 446 cases was the lowest single-day tally of new cases since early October.
Wednesday’s 13 new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,712. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now five, down from 77 daily deaths in late January. The daily death count is now at the lowest point of the pandemic.
Tuesday’s report of zero new deaths was the first time that had happened in nearly a year. The only other time no deaths were recorded was on June 30.
Statewide hospitalizations have also plummeted since the start of the state’s vaccine rollout. Hospitalizations on Wednesday dropped by 13 patients, bringing the total to 428 patients.
