Quasi-state payrolls from the top down

The 16 quasi-state payrolls posted to bostonherald.com today show the financing, housing, college-loan assisting and health connector employees are being paid handsomely.

Here’s a snapshot:

  • $789,033 is the highest pay listed, for the head of the pension team at PRIM.
  • Three other PRIM bosses pull down $484,607, $474,473 and $444,038.
  • Close behind is a top earner at MEFA, the college loan team, at $341,909.
  • Massport’s aviation expert earns $403,581.

In all, the quasi-state payrolls obtained by the Herald from the state comptroller’s office account for nearly 44,000 employees who make an average of $29,150, according to an analysis of the data.

Not listed were multiple regional transit authorities — from Brockton to Lowell. Calls to both of those transportation hubs were not returned Monday. They are among about a dozen such agencies that do not report their payrolls to the comptroller.

Other quasi-state agencies that also fail to report pay are being sought by the Herald as part of the always-updated “Your Tax Dollars at Work” report.
