Jon Santiago’s campaign manager out after 6 weeks in Boston mayoral race

State Rep. Jon Santiago’s campaign manager has resigned six weeks into the South End pol’s mayoral campaign.

Victoria Williams, who Santiago brought on to run his campaign after he launched it on Feb. 23, is out, the campaign confirmed Tuesday night.

“Victoria Williams has left the campaign to pursue other opportunities,” the campaign said in a statement, adding that Williams resigned. “Thanks to her leadership, our organization has grown tremendously since launch day and is building citywide, neighborhood by neighborhood. We’re grateful that for all Victoria has done to lead us to this point.”

Santiago is one of the six major candidates vying for the open mayoral seat.

Williams, who Santiago announced on March 3, previously served as now-Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s New Hampshire state director during his run for president in 2020.

Santiago splashed into the mayoral race in late February, out-raising all competitors that month as he pitched himself on his experience as a legislator, emergency room doctor and Army Reserve captain. The state rep from the South End fell back into the middle of the pack during March.

Acting Mayor Kim Janey, former city economic development chief John Barros and city councilors Andrea Campbell, Annissa Essaibi-George and Michelle Wu are the other major candidates in the field to replace now-Labor Secretary Martin Walsh, who resigned as mayor March 22.
