Trump questions if Russia probe special counsel is still ‘living’

Is special counsel John Durham still punching the clock? Donald Trump would like to know.

The former president said he’s wondering where the man tasked with digging into the origins of the FBI’s “Crossfire Hurricane” Russia probe is these days.

“Where’s Durham? Is he a living, breathing human being? Will there ever be a Durham report?” Trump said Friday night in the latest update from his 45 Office email account.

(To those asking how to respond to the 45th president, you can’t. It’s a no-reply account. But, the New York Post reported this week Trump is working on a potential deal with social media platforms for a return engagement since Twitter banned him. One of the possible platforms is called FreeSpace, Axios reports.)

But back to Russia.

Fox News reports Durham has been probing the matter for about two years and was officially appointed a “special counsel” by former Attorney General Barr last October. The former president has long called the Russia accusations a “hoax” and it appears he’s anxious for vindication.

No word from the Justice Department as of late Friday night.

One thing is clear, Trump is keeping his options open as he continues to criticize President Biden, especially on the crisis at the southern border. He said in a recent Fox News telephone interview that he’s mulling a run again in 2024. He added he’s eyeing the mid-term elections first, though.

More recently Trump slammed the handling of the migrant crisis. He specifically called out Biden’s U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for what he said was a “pathetic, clueless performance” on Sunday morning news shows.

As the Herald reported, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said in May of 2019 that charging the president was “not an option.” He then announced his resignation.

Mueller summarized the findings of his dual missions – to investigate Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election, and to investigate unsubstantiated allegations of obstruction of justice.

Trump was quick to respond at the time, tweeting, “Nothing changes from the Mueller Report. There was insufficient evidence and therefore, in our Country, a person is innocent. The case is closed! Thank you.”

Now Trump is waiting for the next chapter to hit the printing press.
