Fatal pedestrian crash: 86-year-old Malden woman walking on the sidewalk is struck, killed

An 86-year-old Malden woman was walking on the sidewalk Monday afternoon when a vehicle struck and killed her, according to police.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Malden Police have launched an investigation into the fatal motor vehicle crash.

The woman was walking on the sidewalk along Hunting Street in the area of Salem Street at around 1:38 p.m. Monday when she was struck by a Toyota RAV4.

The driver of the Toyota — a man in his 20s — had been in the vehicle at the auto body shop across the street when the vehicle crashed through the shop’s door and traveled across the street before striking the woman, police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and was transported to an area hospital.

The identity of the woman is being withheld at this time, pending next of kin notification.

The investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Malden Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
