Revs’ Turner, Kessler called up to U.S. National Team camp
The New England Revolution’s backend will be represented at the Unites States Men’s National Team annual January Camp.
Keeper Matt Turner, 26, is making his third career call up and will train with the senior team. Rookie defender Henry Kessler, a former ACC standout at Virginia, will train on the Under-23 side. The senior squad, which consists of 12 MLS players, will train alongside the U-23 crew at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Turner, who was voted the team’s MVP by the players and the fans, will attempt to secure his first international appearance in a planned match at the conclusion of camp. Turner finished the abbreviated MLS season with 1.09 goals against average and a single-season career high six shutouts. Turner is in contention for a spot on the U.S. team at the CONCACAF Nations League Final Four, the Gold Cup and the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Kessler, who became the first rookie to be named the revolution’s Defender of the Year since 2011, will enjoy his first call up to the USMNT at any age. Kessler led the Revs in interceptions (34), tackles won (21), possessions (123) and clearances (83). He was the sixth player taken in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
